ABOUT THE BOOK
This book is an illustrative catalogue of environmental ethical issues. Its purpose is to get the students, research scholars and general public who wish to know what philosophers have been saying about the controversial issues of the possibilities of environmental ethics as a branch of Applied Ethics. Some readers may suggest that the issues address an issue from the standpoint of professional environmental ethics. Others may involve analyzing a case presenting a specific environmental or ethical problem. Thus, this book is to provide a wide-ranging picture of ethics, values, and environment from Western Philosophical perspectives. This book also contains in-depth studies on the research that explore intrinsic value in Nature by providing some arguments from physical science, ethical perspectives on pollution, and environmental values/consciousness in Indian culture and civilization.
The book may have a single aim, but its content varies depending on how it discusses the current environmental problems within the philosophical framework. It addresses environmental problems from a normative viewpoint and reflects humans’ relation to the environment. Thus, rather than being organized by topic, this book is written according to the philosophical approaches towards the fundamental theories in environmental ethics, holistic and individualistic approaches in environmental ethics, contemporary environmental issues, the religious dimension of the relationship between humans and the environment, and sustainable development.
